How to teach the dogwalk
to a border collie

Home > Fun Index > How to Teach the Dogwalk to a Border Collie

This is not the same as how to teach the dogwalk.  The dog involved may well have watched agility on television or it may have borrowed a book from the library and boned up on it first.  Whatever the explanation the border collie will pick up the dogwalk in about five minutes and then ask what next?  Here's what you need.

Equipment
One dogwalk
One greedy border collie
A bag of treats
A first aid kit with bandages
A pen and paper

Method
Put a line of treats up the ramps and across the top of the dogwalk.

Put the border collie at the bottom of the first ramp and show it which way to go up the ramp by waving a treat under its nose.

Open up the first aid kit and bandage what's left of your fingers.

Put some more treats on the dogwalk and point the border collie in the right direction.

Stand back and watch as the border collie runs over the dogwalk gobbling up the food and then goes back in the other direction to see if there's any more.

Finally, hand the pen and paper to the border collie so that it can amuse itself by designing a few courses.

In this case the border collie has
sloped off and left the boring bit
to someone else.
