Alfie Update

Thanks to everyone who helped Alfie through Agility Bits.  We're delighted that this lovely puppy has come through his life saving operation and has been adopted by his foster carer.  He had settled in so well and they all went through so much together it was inevitable really that this would happen.  Alfie is now quite a celebrity and his success is all down to the people who have helped with the cost of his treatment.

There have been some negative comments about spending so much money on one dog. The way I see it is that Alfie had a rare and life threatening condition and each time an animal like this is treated it gives the vets a little more experience.  It may also give them the opportunity to learn something new.   Veterinary surgeons are always willing to contribute their knowledge to human medicine if it is at all possible and I'm delighted if we can help in any way.  Alfie is a young and beautiful dog and I'm delighted with his success story.

The original appeal that went out to the doggie community is shown below.  Everyone responded magnificently and Alfie is now doing well.  If you would like to read more Alfie has his own website

The Original Appeal

Please can you help?
Alfie is a lovely golden retriever puppy who desperately needs help.  His owners could not afford life saving surgery and so he is going into foster care.  He has been diagnosed with a very rare and complicated heart condition, which is killing him. He is currently on medication and doing very well, but to have any chance of life he needs further investigation and surgery from the top cardiologist in the UK.
The estimated costs involved to save Alfie’s life is £3000. The surgery may not be successful and we may lose Alfie anyway, but this pup deserves a chance - he is a fighter with a lot of spirit in him. The University have given him a decent chance of survival if these investigations & surgery can go ahead.
