Jamie's Grandma

Jamie tries his hand at agility up a tree outside Grandma's

When we stay at Grandma's Jamie misses his agility.  I know this because he takes himself off to the skateboard park and runs over something that looks like a very slippery dogwalk.  It's time to make some portable jumps that are light enough to carry.  Here's how I've made the first one.   You'll need about twenty feet of overflow pipe and four tee pieces.

Method

Cut a small piece of pipe just long enough to join the tee pieces together.  Fit the pieces together as shown.  You'll need one for each
side.

portable_jump_3.jpg (3968 bytes) To make the jump feet  cut two pieces of pipe about twelve to fourteen inches long to fit into either side of the bottom tee piece.

Cut a piece of pipe the width of the jump and fit it into the jump feet.

Cut two lengths of pipe for the uprights and mark the height of the pole on each of them. Make the jump cups . I made mine out of an empty talcum powder
container.  (Imperial Leather).  Drill two holes in each of the cups and two holes through each of the uprights.  Bolt the cups in place.  Cut a piece of pipe for the pole.
Take the whole thing into the garden and tell the family and the dog that you've made a new jump. Get the camera. Take a picture of the dog completely ignoring the jump. portable_6.jpg (6240 bytes)

Note:  Don't tell the husband you are taking portable jumps on holiday.  They don't like filling up the car with dog stuff as it is and they tend to have hysterics if they think you're taking a complete agility course with you.  Now........how can I make a portable dogwalk?

Update: 24th August.  Sadly Grandma passed away on 26th July 2008.  She was 83.
