This is what you need to
make the jump:
1)
2 pieces of 25mm x 50mm planed square edge wood 85mm long. Shown right
2)
Two tent pegs. Shown right. 3)
A hammer and a few staples.
4) Some jump
cups and screws to screw them on with. These can
be bought cheaply from John and Theresa at Agilitydogsjump4joyon ebay.
5) A bit of
pipe to use as a jump pole. You could use the handle from the rake or
the floor mop but some members of your family may not see the funny side.
This
is how to put the jump together

First of all you need to paint the wood and allow it to dry.
The next part is quite easy. You simply staple the tent pegs to the
end of each of the pieces of wood so that you have a spike to stick in the
ground.
Now all you have to do is to measure up
for the jump cups and screw them on. The jump cups I used are shown
below. They are the type that you often see on competition jumps and
you can buy these quite cheaply. You can make your own from old
washing up liquid bottles but when you're using wood of these dimensions
it's probably easier to buy them. The standard Kennel Club
heights are 35cm for small dogs, 45cm for medium dogs and 55cm to 65cm for
large dogs. Nearly every judge sets the large height at 65cm.
I use all three heights as it's good to vary things in training.
Now stick the
jump in the ground using the pole to measure the width and you have a nice
new jump.
Finally the dogs get to
admire it.

They don't do anything as rash as
actually jumping over it but it's very hot in the garden and they've
just had a walk.

Now for the good bit...
If you work hard and make three jumps and spend some money on some weave
poles you may even get a husband and two dogs to come and ignore things
as well.

Here's some of the equipment, including jump cups,
that is available from Agility Dogs Jump 4 Joy.
If you don't feel up to making the jump they have some garden jumps for
sale.
